Christlike Catholic Church Uses “Gotcha!” Tactic on Bereaved Woman

April 18, 2013

Gotta admire the balls of the good ol’ RC Church (oh, the irony). They pounced on a teacher who had worked for them for nineteen years and fired her — because she happened to mention her female partner in an obituary she wrote — for her mother.

Ohio Catholic High School Fires Gay Teacher For Naming Partner In Mother’s Obituary

As teacher Carla Hale said,

She asked me if I really wanted to put her name in there — in the obituary — but as we sat there that day — my mom really loved Julie and Julie loved my my mom and as I sat there with my brother, you know, it was like… his wife was mentioned, my niece’s husband was mentioned, so why not? Why not my person I love?

Why not, indeed? The person who shares your life with you, the person who sustains you in your sorrow. Why let someone force you to pretend that person doesn’t exist??

But the church says, “You’ve lost your mother, eh? We’ll take your job too, because we care about rules but the last person we care about — as the representatives of Christ on earth — is you in your grief.”

Milk of human kindness, eh? Just what you expect from these whited sepulchres. They never fail to live up to expectations. With a vengeance.
