First Baptist Church of Crystal Springs, Miss. are pure Bigots — Just Like Jesus Wants Them to Be

July 28, 2012

The happily racist members of the First Baptist Church of Crystal Springs, Mississippi attempted to destroy the wedding day of a black couple, by deciding that no black people would be allowed to marry in that church.

NOT EVEN BLACK PEOPLE WHO ACTUALLY ATTEND THAT CHURCH.

Wedding Banned: Black Couple Told They Can’t Wed In Baptist Church:

the day before their Big Day, their pastor told them their wedding had been cancelled.

…the couple had booked the church and distributed invitations only to find out that the church’s congregation had decided that the Wilsons, an African American couple, could not tie the knot in their church.

“The church congregation had decided no black could be married at that church, and that if he went on to marry her, then they would vote [the pastor] out the church,” Charles Wilson told Fox.

The Wilsons regularly attend the predominantly white church, though they are not members. [Emphasis Mine]

So the enthusiastically racist members of the First Baptist Church of Crystal Springs, Mississippi not only attempted to destroy the wedding day of a black couple from their own church, but they also blackmailed the pastor into going along with it: “Be as enthusiastically and devotedly racist as we are, the bigoted members of the First Baptist Church in Crystal Springs, or we’ll fire you.”

Note that this wedding had been known about for a while, since there had been time to book it and print and send out invitations. But the gleeful and blissfully racist members of the First Baptist Church of Crystal Springs waited until the last moment to spring their racist, prejudiced trap on their black victims, only forcing the pastor to tell them the day before the wedding that they were cancelling the wedding of their fellow human beings.

The pastor did display that his backbone wasn’t entirely mush, since he still married the couple, but in a different location. If he’d had an actual backbone, of course, he would have resigned instantly and left the happily and devotedly racist members of the Crystal Springs First Baptist Church totally in the lurch.

Let us hope he has enough of a backbone, from this point forward, to preach shame at this viciously nasty congregation every Sunday as long as he remains there. But let us also not hold our breath.

And perhaps the practising racists in Crystal Springs, at the First Baptist Church, should keep in mind what their saviour (with his dark hair and swarthy skin, given his racial heritage) would say about them:

Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them. Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

Matthew 7:19-23

Note that it was a very small minority of people who complained to the pastor. Yet HE CAVED to that minority. And other members of the church are horrified at what happened (Mississippi predominantly white Baptist church closes door to black couple’s wedding) — yet that majority apparently carried no weight in comparison to the minority of members (obviously very powerful, with power over the hiring and firing of the pastor?) who perpetrated the vicious, racist act.

If the majority of members do not publically rebuke the racist members (** see below) and, if those members won’t repent, kick them out of the church, then they share in the responsibility. There’s no way around that. Either the church itself is a bigoted church, or they seek out the evil and cast it out. Period.

…if thy brother shall trespass against thee, go and tell him his fault between thee and him alone: if he shall hear thee, thou hast gained thy brother. But if he will not hear [thee, then] take with thee one or two more, that in the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established. And if he shall neglect to hear them, tell [it] unto the church: but if he neglect to hear the church, let him be unto thee as an heathen man and a publican.

— Matthew 18:15-17

I sure wouldn’t go to this so called church… Some pastor he is, he should be standing up for God and not his so called Flock in his church…… We all are God’s children and shame on that Pastor and his Flock…. I think that Pastor needs to read his Bible a lot more and maybe even take some Bible leasons….. I hope he has prayed for forgiveness for the way he has treated that couple.. God Bless that couple and God have mercy on that church, pastor and his flock………

I do think the pastor was caught in a hard place, very suddenly. I actually put more blame on the small number of racists in the church (who obviously have a lot of power there) who were able to try to destroy that couple’s wedding day and think they could get away with it. They, far more than the pastor, need to repent. They also need to be officially rebuked in public in the church, and if they won’t repent, should be kicked out. (No matter how much money and power they have.) That’s the biblical form of church discipline.
